Types of Baseball Gear

There are many different types of baseball gear available for the average baseball player. For children, protective gear is especially important. Batting helmets, for example, protect batters from the hot balls thrown at them at speeds over 100 mph. Batting helmets are available at a variety of price ranges and are rated according to the speed at which baseballs are pitched. They range in size from five to twelve inches in diameter. Protective baseball gear should be comfortable and durable.

Undershirts can be either tight-fitting or loose-fitting. Undershirts aren’t part of the uniform, but they are often worn by players. Most leagues require that undershirts be neutral in color so that they don’t distract from the jersey. In cooler weather, long-sleeved undershirts can keep the player warm. Short-sleeved undershirts are better for warmer weather, and compression undershirts can add extra support to muscles. Undershirts can be made from cotton or can be a synthetic material.

Besides baseball helmets, catchers need protective gear, too. They need to protect their head and chest from fastballs. A baseball helmet protects their heads and neck from major injuries, such as broken bones. Chest protectors are usually made of foam and can include shoulder protection. They are easy to put on and remove, with straps around the back and ventilation to keep them cool. Some chest protectors also have knee saver pads attached to them.
