The Alabama Sports Writers Association has released its final high school baseball rankings for 2021. Enterprise, Grissom, Oak Mountain, Prattville, Spain Park, and Calera all crack the top 25. The league’s other top teams are Calera, 16-12, Gardendale, Mortimer Jordan, and Spanish Fort.
The Cardinals had high hopes for the 2020 season. They began the season on an 11-game winning streak but dropped a few games, including a 2-0 loss to defending champion Vanderbilt. With an improved pitching staff, the Cardinals will try to repeat their success in the coming years.
Texas Tech finished the season with a 16-3 record and a #4 ranking in the country. The team won 12 straight games at one point, and then lost two games to Mississippi State. They enter 2021 as the third-ranked team in the country and have depth in the pitching department. The team returns some experienced players as well. It is hard to predict a Texas Tech team, but the Longhorns are one of the top teams in college baseball.
The baseball rankings are based on a poll of 31 Division I baseball coaches. The first-place vote is worth 25 points, while a second-place vote is worth 24 points. Third and fourth-place votes each receive one point.
