It is refreshing to have Barry Bonds back in baseball, now that he is a hitting instructor for the Miami Marlins. The only player in history to win as many as seven Most Valuable Player awards, Bonds should certainly be an inspiration to Marlins youngsters as well as to current stars such as outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and second baseman Dee Gordon.
The all-time career home run leader, however, is not the only former star to be on a coaching staff entering the 2016 season. Unlike past decades, when dugouts were captained by mediocre players who became great managers and coaches, the game of baseball has seen an increase of retired stars assuming leadership positions.
Here are ten current coaches or managers who earned one of the biggest awards in baseball, either an M.V.P., a Cy Young, or Rookie of the Year.
