An argument between a baseball player and his wife has ended with both being arrested and ordered to remain in jail. Genesis Ozuna, the wife of Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna, was arrested in Miami on charges of domestic battery. The couple has three children together. They were involved in a domestic dispute around the same time last year. Genesis was arrested and booked into jail after a two-week investigation. She pleaded not guilty and has been ordered to stay away from her husband.
The incident occurred on May 29, when Marcell Ozuna, an Atlanta Braves outfielder, allegedly choked his estranged wife, Genesis Guzman. Ozuna was placed on administrative leave following the incident and was later sanctioned by MLB for violating the league’s policy on domestic violence. Although the felony charges against Ozuna were later dropped, the baseball player and his wife are still under investigation.
The incident was caught on bodycam footage. In the footage, Ozuna can be seen aggressively grabbing his wife’s neck, according to the officer. The bodycam footage did not show if the couple were arguing, but it does appear that they were trying to control each other. The officer yells at the two, and orders them to get down. The wife is asked to step outside, and a second man appears. The video cuts out before the second man replies.
The couple has a daughter and a son, and they have been separated since 2008. The two are now facing charges of domestic violence. However, the MLB is still investigating the incident, and the couple’s lawyer has not responded to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
