Baseball cards are collectible pieces of paper, usually issued by professional baseball teams. They are traded, won, and traded back. There are many different types of baseball cards, and some of them more popular than others. These include but are not limited to regular season, playoff, rookie, and limited edition cards.
A baseball card, also called a trading card, is a kind of collectible trading card based upon baseball, normally printed on thick cardboard, cloth, or plastic. The first cards were issued with either a gumball stick of paper, and few, if any, cards per player. These cards featured one or more famous baseball players, usually teams, stadiums, or other prominent figures. Vintage cards that are extremely rare and collectible are often bought, along with cards featuring players from other professional sports such as basketball and football. Today, baseball cards can be found in nearly every sports shop, from supermarkets to newsstands, and are often sold for huge prices.
Some baseball cards feature game-used players who were no longer in the major leagues, including pitchers John Van Roy and Tom Seaver. Other cards are signed by notable players who have already reached retirement age. These kinds of cards are very desirable because collectors want to find and obtain the autograph of a specific player, and many times, the player has not yet been traded to another team. Vintage cards also sell for big bucks, as there are only a few of these baseball cards around. The most valuable cards are often traded between two teams.
